covid-19 update - 17th august 2020

The Scottish Government has advised that dental practices can enter phase 3b from the 17th of august 2020, providing certain criteria is able to be put in place and the health board approves each practice individually.

AT present we are therefore still unable to provide any aerosol generating procedure for routine or emergency treatment.

at present, the practice will continue to offer URGENT EMERGENCY TREATMENT ONLY, and any emergency procedure requiring an aerosol will be referred to Urgent Dental Care Centres as appropriate.

A risk assessment has been carried out for the safety of patients and staff and this excludes many “routine treatments”. We are still restricted in both the number of patients we can see and the type of treatment that we can carry out.

A routine examination (check-up) of your teeth & mouth require us to dry your teeth fully with air – this is an aerosol generating procedure. We would also be unable to provide any further treatment required.

Fillings/ scaling/ crowns/ bridges / dentures – all require use of equipment that generate aerosols.

In the event of a dental emergency, please call the practice on 0141 201 5080 where you will be triaged appropriately. Please be aware that this is for dental emergencies only and we will not be able to book routine dental appointments at this time.
Every patient will be required to answer a COVID 19 Screening and update their Medical History. Please be assured that whilst we will be restricted in the type of treatment we can carry out; the Emergency Dental Centres will continue to operate, and patient’s will be referred as appropriate/dependant on their treatment needs.

Please be aware that ALL APPOINTMENTS MUST BE MADE BY TELEPHONE, and entry to the Health Centre remains restricted to patients who have appointments. Please do not attend the Health Centre without a prearranged appointment.

On the instruction of the Chief Dental Officer and Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board, we are limited to the number of patients we can see each day. This is to facilitate social distancing and enhanced safety measures. Patients will be appointed based on the urgency of their treatment needs. Please be patient with the staff who are doing their best in this challenging time. We will be in contact with patients who have required emergency treatment during this period, but please be advised that this will take some time. Please bear with us as we adapt to the new way of operating.

Please read the following instructions carefully:·
1) We would ask patients to attend ALONE unless an essential carer/guardian is required. Please inform us when we triage you as any escort will also be subject to COVID 19 screening. 2) Please attend with minimal belongings (Leavebags/jackets in car), and wear a face covering when entering the health centre. 3) We would also ask patients to bring their own pen. 4) We would ask all patients to arrive as close totheir scheduled appointment time as possible and call the practice when they are outside (0141 201 5080). You will be advised when to enter the health centre and will be taken straight into surgery. 5) Appointment times will be carefully given to facilitate social distancing. If you are late, we may be unable to see you.
6) You will be asked to use the hand sanitise on entering the reception area and again on leaving. 7) Any payments will be required to be contactless.

We appreciate that we are giving patients a lot of new information, so please make yourself familiar with these measures before you attend an appointment.
